I have spent most of my life modelling in 1:87 scale(HO) but I have experimented in other scales. I started out in O scale in the early 1970’s as a Christmas present from Santa. To this day I don’t know how “Santa” was able to get two sawhorses and a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood into the living room adjacent to my bedroom without waking me up. It was a simple figure 8 loop with 1 switch for parking cars. Understandably, it didn’t remain in the living room and my train domain became an unfinished attic in that old house in Forada at the depot site. It was hot in the summer, but an 8 year old didn’t care as there was plenty to do outside in those days. It survived until I discovered HO and I liked that I could so so much more in the designated space. I recently replaced interior doors in my home and ended up trying to figure out what to do with the old hollow core doors that was probably about as old as my train set. Rummaging through my old stuff and finding the remnants of my O-scale, a new winter project has begun. A trip to Menards around Christmas has allowed me to upgrade track, but as you see in the photo some of my original legacy track has made it to the track plan. The lone switch is still the same one from 50 years ago. This should be a good winter project.
